About

Harish Chartered Accountants is a well-established firm based in Wellingborough, serving Northamptonshire and beyond. Through customer recommendations, we have clients across the UK.

We work with small and medium-sized businesses, offering our clients a very personalised accountancy service and ensuring that for the duration of any assignment, they always deal with the same member of staff. This not only facilitates communication but also ensures confidentiality and inspires confidence in the professional accountancy service advice they receive.

We have a handful of staff who have been with us for many years now. Their breadth of Accountancy knowledge is very wide, and between them they have countless years of accountancy and tax experience dealing with a wide variety of business situations, which is invaluable in the current changing economic climate.

We value our staff as the core of our business accountancy services; they reflect our values as a business, our ethics as an employer, and our service ethos towards our clients. We make working at Harish an enjoyable experience, our staff feel valued, and our customers know that they can trust their accounts to us and get on with running their business.

Our Founder

Late Harish Mathuradas Thakrar

Harish was born and brought up in Malawi, Central Africa. His first job was as a junior accountant at Coopers & Lybrand (now known as PWC) in Blantyre, Malawi. He travelled to the UK to pursue higher education and settled in Wellingborough, where he would spend the rest of his life. He graduated at Leicester Polytechnic (now called De Montfort University) before joining Grant Thornton and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant.

In 1987, he took the brave step of starting his own accountancy practice. He quickly built a reputation for providing an honest, professional & reliable service.

He worked extremely hard, regularly clocking up 60 to 70 hours per week in the office. While running such a demanding business, he still managed to spend plenty of time with his family and carry out voluntary social work. He was a key member of teams who established the local Hindu temple, elderly day centre & sheltered housing association. His time management skills enabled him to fulfil all these responsibilities, but more importantly, he had the spirit of Seva (social service).

Harish’s son Kunal joined the practice after graduating from university. At this point, Harish began the process of passing down his vast knowledge to Kunal and securing the firm’s long-term continuity.
Outside of work, Harish practised Yoga and meditation on a daily basis, starting free Yoga classes in Wellingborough, which continue to this day. He was a keen sportsman, playing badminton and swimming regularly. Being spiritually inclined by nature, he regularly visited temples and places of pilgrimage.
In the last 5 years of his life, he bravely fought against Motor Neuron Disease (MND). He always had a smile on his face, even during extremely challenging times. During this period, he passed on all the responsibilities of running his accountancy firm to his son, Kunal.

Through his accountancy firm and various social projects which he helped establish, Harish’s legacy continues!
